Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci greatest artists of the Renaissance

During the Renaissance people studied art. Art was one of the most important accomplishments of the Renaissance. People studied or copied art of ancient Greece and Rome. Artists made landscapes to make objects look more realistic. To make sculptors, artists studied the human parts of the body like the human bones and the muscles. One of the greatest artists of the Renaissance is Michelangelo. He was called the Renaissance man. He had made the Statue of David. Sculpture was not one of his famous accomplishments but a series of paintings that covered the Sistine Chapel. The other famous artists in the Renaissance was Leonardo da Vinci. Like Michelangelo, Leonardo was called the Renaissance man. One of his famous paintings was the Mona Lisa. Leonardo was not a polific draftsman but he kept a Journal of small sketches and detailed drawings that took his attention.Thats what enabled his ability in sience and the human body. Leonaro traveled around Italy and painted for the Pope.

The Difference Between A Renaissance Man And A Noble Man

In the Middle Ages, a noble man was someone who was known for his wealth and supervision over the manors. A Renaissance man  is someone who is very talented in more than one way.  So the difference is that nobles are rich watch over the manors and  renaissance man have actually talented  and that's the difference.

Micheanglo VS. Devenchi

Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, was amazingly talented in many ways he made great paintings, sculptors, and building designs. He was born 6 March 1475,he was known as Michelangelo,  his wide verities in different skills in the self-restaurant he took up was of such a high order that he is often considered a person for the title of archetypal Renaissance man, along with his rival and  Italian, Leonardo da Vinci. Michelangelo died in 18 February 1564.

Leonardo DaVinci  was an architect, musician, scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer botanist and writer. Leonardo has often been described as the archetype of the Renaissance man. He is widely considered to be one of the greatest painters of all time and probably the most multi- talented person who had ever lived.

Impact of the Protestant Reformation

The impact of the Protestant Reformation changed the religious beliefs, practices, culture and society of Christians mainly in Europe but also in other parts of the world.

  1.   Religious Beliefs:   During the Protestant Reformation the people had new evidence that the old beliefs were not true.  The old evidence that caused them to believe what they believed was the words of the pope and the Catholic books.  The new evidence was the Bible which now they could read it in their own language.
  2.   Religious Practices:      Before the Reformation many people would give money to the priest or the Pope to have their sins forgiven.  This was called: Penance  It was known as: Righteousness by Works.   Now that they have the Bibles the people know that God forgives your sins just by asking Him.  This is called: Righteousness by Faith.
  3.   Culture:  Before the Protestant Reformation the kings obeyed the Pope and did whatever the Pope told them to do.  After the Reformation the kings realized that the popes were teaching false things and decided that they were no longer going to do what the popes said and began to rule their kingdoms by themselves.  They also did not support the Catholic church with money as they used to.
  4.   Society of Christians:     Before the Reformation just about all the Christians when to the Catholic Church.  It was the only official Christian  Church.  After the Reformation a lot of new churches got started like the Lutherans; the Methodist and the Baptist.  The people in the new churches were call Protestants.  Many Protestants and Catholics argued and even fought about who were the real Christian people of God.

the difference between the renassiance and middleages

The  middleages  are different  from the renassiance  beacuse  the middleages  mostly  focused on celebrating God, the saints, and the church .It  was also  a time   of suffering like wide spread diseases, . The middleages  was known  as the age  of faith   beacuse the  purpose was  to praise God  the focus  of life  was on  the after life  beacuse  there was no guarantee in the present .But durning  the renassiance  they cared  about  the achievements  of human beigns  rather than on God .They  painted religious paintings from the bible  but used clothing from their time .Most   of the artist   durning  the renassiance  painted pictures  that seemed so  life like    one of the most famous pictures is called the mona lisa  if you want to see more  pictures  then go heregoogle .and also go to encyclopedia .com if you want to learn more about the renassiance and middleages .

The factors that led to the Renaissance

The term Renaissance means "new birth". Renaissance is a cultural movement. It began in Florence, Italy in the 14th and 17th century in the late Middle Ages and spread around Europe. Most people in northern Europe lived under Feudalism. People in the Renaissance had interest in art, literature, science, and religion. Artists studied art and copied art of ancient Greece and Rome. Renaissance scholars and artists developed a new focus on nature, ideals and achievements of human beings. This philosophy is called humanism. The Protestant Reformation is an effort to reform, or improve the Catholic Church. It was the establishment of new forms of Christianity. Many people disagreed with the teachings and practices of the Roman Catholic Church like Martin Luther. He believed faith in God was the key to a proper Christian life. But one of the things that led to the Renaissance was the printing press using movable type. It was used to print Bibles and literature arts. There are numerous factors that led to the Renaissance such as economic, political, social, and ideological and cultural.

art and science

Italian artists study the bones and muscles of the body. Renaissance painters also used perspective to make objects and landscape look more life-like. They discovered that if you make far away things smaller it looks 3D. They also used shadows and light to make objects look solid.

MICHELANGELO by violetcastillo

michelangelo was a great painter he painted the sistine chapel and his art work was really nice and his two best work was pieta and david they were even sculpted before he was thirty. dispite of his low opinion of painting, michelangelo also created two of the most influental works in fresco,in the history of western art.  michelangelo was primarily a sculptor though it was it is probably true to say he was more interested in the human form than in any particular way or mediom in witch to represent.

Humanism

I guess somehow Humanism was not a theory, but instead a way of learning. In comparison to the Medieval times way of learning, which was focused on solving conflicts between authors. Humanists would study ancient texts in the original, and check them through a combination of thinking through and observing evidence. Humanism was based on the program of 'Studia Humanitatis', the study of five humanities: poetry, grammar, history, moral philosophy and rhetoric.  Although historians have sometimes struggled to define Humanism precisely, most have settled on ''a middle of the road definition... the movement to recover, interpret, and grasp the language, literature, learning and values of ancient Greece and Rome''.  Above all, Humanists made use of  ''the genius of man ... the unique and the extraordinary ability of the human mind.''

Black Death

One idea has been said that the destruction caused by the Black Death in Florence, which hit Europe between 1348 and 1350, results in a change of the world view of people in Italy in the 1300's. Italy was especially hurt by the disaster, and it has been said that being well-known with death that this brought making thinkers to think more about their lives on Earth, rather than on spiritual things and after you die. there has also been an argument that the Black Death inspired a new mindset for reverence to God, demonstrated in supporting religious works of art. Although, this does not fully tell why the Renaissance happened especially in Italy in the 1300's. The Black Death was a disaster that hurt all of Europe in the ways told , not only Italy. The Renaissance's emergency in Italy was most likely the result of the most complicated communication of the above factors.

THE RENAISSANSE (according to me)

When most people think about the Renaissance they imagine  knights in shining armor and  helpless princesses.  Now these things are true, but they aren't even half of the story. The Renaissance was not really about these things. What made the Renaissance the Renaissance was the rebirth (which is what Renaissance means) of interest in art, math , literature , science and history. Although the Renaissance did lead lots of people away from God, it showed the power of humanity and what we could do on our own. During the Renaissance real things were accomplished. Such as the  painting of the  Sistine Chapel , the writing of plays such as Hamlet & Othello. The discoveries in science by people like Galileo, and Da Vinci ,and lot more!               Want to learn more about the Renaissance?

Christopher Columbus's Adventurer

Columbus was born to a wool weaver in Genoa, Italy. As a boy he help his father with the weaving, but he wanted to be adventuring at sea. In 1476 Columbus was sailing on an Italian ship when he was attacked by a French fleet off the coast of Portugal. The ship sank and Columbus swam to shore, but that didn't stop him from sailing. He went to Lisbon, Portugal to search for his brother, Bartholomew, who lived there. After leaving Lisbon, Columbus when on several more sea voyages trading goods. His sea travels carried him to interesting places, including Ireland, Iceland, and Western Africa.

Columbus heard of the explorer Marco Polo and his tales of riches in faraway Asia. Columbus thought it would be in possible to reach Asia traveling west instead of going south under Africa and then east. In 1484 he asked the king of Portugal, John 11,to give him money for a voyage, but the king refused, so Columbus went to Spain. There he ask Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand to pay for the expedition. At first they were not interested, but in1492 they gave him the money for his trip. Columbus was given control of  three ships- Santa Maria, Nina, Pinta. The three ships set sail from Palos, Spain on August 3, 1492.The crew enjoyed the wonderful weather on their journey west across the Atlantic. On October 12,1492, Columbus and his crew landed on an island now known as Guanahani in the Bahamas. Columbus named it San Salvador. There he met native people called the Tainos.

Major achievements in the renaissance

File:Lastjudgement.jpg
The last judgement

The renaissance look like this

The Renaissance was a period in Europe that change the whole place into a wonderful civilization. At first Europe was in the medieval ages with no learning and focus on the church. Then in 1300, the Italian city states were so rich that they wanted to learn more.  So they learned about the Greeks and Romans and painters want to make a living my painting what they have learned.   Leonardo Da Vinci painted the Mona Lisa and the Last Supper, Michelangelo painted The Last Judgement, the Creation of Adam, Raphael created the School of Athens.
The architecture  in the Middles Ages style is Gothic but in the Renaissance they changed it to the classical style of ancient Greece and Rome.   In the Middle Ages all stories are told from the Bible while in the renaissance they started their own stories.  William Shakespeare wrote Romeo and JulietHamlet, King John IV...etc.
Europe also became advanced at in  the use of gunpowder in warfare, the new design of ships that sail around the globe.  Also map making that helped people to travel.  Because of all of this Europe discovered the Americas and changed the whole world with their achievements in the Renaissances.  One last thing, the discovery of space and other planets. Then after the Renaissance the Western world began to improve their technology  which lead them into the Industrial Age. Since the Europeans traveled more worldwide they shared their knowledge with the rest of the world. Because of all the discoveries in the Renaissance the whole world became modern.

Keys figures in the reformation and their contributions

The reformation was a important event in history because it changes the whole ways the Christians worship.

Martin Luther

But it not go there by itself it was made by key important people like Martin Luther a monk who started the reformation because he hated how the Catholics worship he decide to worship base on the bible says and convert a lot of people also translate from Latin to German for people to read. The reason why he want it to base it on the bible because he saw how the Catholics think the pope is a God and worships of pictures that artist painted.

John Calvin
John Calvin was author of Calvin's Institutes of the Christian  Religion. He also a person behind the Geneva Bible. That convert more people into reformation.

William Tyndale
William Tyndale who translate the bible into English and his style of translate turn into the basic of translated bibles.

Desiderius Erasmus
Desiderius Erasmus was a scholar who translate the Latin word to make it easier for people who study Latin can read better. It help Martin Luther and William Tyndale to translate the bible. King Henry VIII make England a reformation christian country that take the idea from martin Luther.

St. Ignatius of Loyola
lastly St. Ignatius of Loyola found the Jesuits. who travel around Europe and build schools and churches to teach people about the christian faith. That reform the Catholic church.

A NEW START IN THE CHATHOLIC CHURCH

It was 1517, a German monk named Martin Luther started to question the Catholic church on their teachings. He asked day in and day out until one day when he decided that he couldn't wait for there answers. He boldly nailed a list of his questions and complaints to the door of  his church. This act is known today as the 95 Theses.( This was some traditional stuff that the people did then) After he made his bold move, he was kicked out of the Catholic Church. This lead to the remaking of the Catholic Church and the creation of Luther's church .the Lutherans.
Now you probably think that this man was crazy. I mean to think he could prove a point to people who  knew much more then him (like many of the catholic leaders) ,but he wasn't.  Here is why ,when I was in third grade my parents made me watch a movie call KEEPERS OF THE  FLAME. It explained how he could possibly tell people who most likely taught him that they were wrong. It's like a third or forth grader trying  to tell the teacher how to teach!  The movie said that after one of his required classes, he started to read  the Bible for himself (which the Catholic Church did not like for people to do without guidance from the Catholic Church.) Luther learned all the lies that the church had been telling. He learned tricks they had played.   Like  taking away all the Bibles so they could teach people things that were not even in the Bible, and having people pay to have their sins forgiven(which were all very important in the 95 Theses.)  Martin was tired of the lies that came from The Catholic church, so he left the Catholic Church.  In doing that he helped spark the Reformation.
